Spiti valley lies in the north-eastern part of Himachal Pradesh, a Himalayan state in India. Spiti means The middle land, in reference to it lying between mainland India and Tibet.

Spiti is cut off from the rest for India from November to May every year due to heavy snowfall. This means that on the tour we have 30-70 mix of paved and unpaved roads with numerous stream crossings. An ideal place for an adventure motorcyclist. But this ride is not just about adventure, the landscape is stunningly beautiful and changes harmoniously from lush green to barren mountains to lush green again. You also visit some of the oldest Buddhist monasteries for a rich cultural experience, ride across three high-altitude passes, and visit the highest villages in the world to remain populated year-round and to top it all off, ride to Chandertaal Lake, a beautiful high-altitude lake in the Himalayas.

A motorcycle ride to the remote Spiti valley is by no means easy, but using our experience we have crafted a route that lets you have a comfortable stay after each days gruelling ride and return home saying you had the ride of your life.

Motorcycle tour to Spiti Day Wise Route Plan

Day 01 : Arrive In Manali
You need to arrive either by Volvo Bus, or by flight till Bhuntar airport in Kullu from New Delhi at our designated hotel in Manali by 12 noon, where you will meet the Ride of My Life team and your co-riders. The road captain briefs everyone on the route and the day-wise plan. Post that, you will be handed over the Himalayan motorcycles which you would be riding for the rest of the tour.
Day 02 : Manali To Jibhi
We start off the ride and head south, riding with the Beas River by our side. We head towards Jibhi, a small village situated in the Tirthan Valley. Before checking into the riverside guesthouse, you take a detour on a dirt track nearby, to get accustomed to the Royal Enfield & the terrain that you will encounter later in the tour.
Day 03 : Jibhi To Kalpa
We leave Tirthan Valley and ride along the Great Himalayan National Park, to cross the stunning, but steep Jalori pass (10,800 feet) through picturesque Deodhar woods. This is a challenging part of the day’s journey because the road goes from bad to worse towards the top, with some tricky curves thrown in as well. After the descent from Jalori pass, we ride on the famous Hindustan-Tibet Highway along the Sutlej river. A tarmac road with easy riding conditions with beautiful views of the Sutlej till Kalpa. Kalpa, a small town is home to the delicious Kinnaur Apples. Kalpa also offers a spectacular view of one of the holiest mountains in India - Kinner Kailash.
Day 04 : Kalpa To Nako
After an early breakfast, we ride north along the narrow valley within which flows the Sutlej river, in awe of Himalayan shadows and into the high altitude region of Himachal. After some gruelling stretches of dirt tracks and water crossings, we enter the barren land of Spiti Valley. The landscape changes from lush green to rocky, and then to barren. Your stay tonight is in Swiss tents with attached toilets in the small but pristine Nako Village, near the Nako Lake.
Day 05 : Nako To Kaza Via Dhankar
Being an easy riding day, we visit Tabo monastery (10,010 feet) in the morning. This monastery is famed for its vast collection of frescos and stucco paintings and is called the "Ajanta of the Himalayas". We also visit Dhankar monastery (12,774 feet), one of the oldest monasteries in the world. The monastery is built on a high spur overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers. The second half of the day will be reserved for much needed rest.
Day 06 : Kaza - Hikkim - Komic - Kaza
Kaza (11,980 Ft) is the capital of the Spiti region. Today's highlight is the ride to Hikkim (14,400 feet) and Komic (14,830 feet) villages, the highest altitude villages in the world to be populated all year round. The village of Hikkim has the highest Post Office in the world (Pin Code 172114). It's a good idea to mail a postcard to yourself and your loved ones from this Post Office as a souvenir of your journey. Finally, a visit to the beautiful Ki Gompa (aka Kee, Key), the largest monastery in Spiti, wraps up the day's ride.
Day 07 : Kaza To Chandertaal
Today's ride is special in many ways, what with the ever changing landscape which will leave you mesmerised. We also ride over Kunzum La (15,050 feet), the highest altitude of the ride. The pass offers magnificent views of the Chandra-Bhaga range of mountains. Getting close to our destination, we ride on a narrow dirt track to reach the Chandratal Lake. Since vehicles are not allowed near the lake, we have to hike for 25 minutes to this pristine Himalayan lake. The stay for the night will be in Swiss tents at a campsite.
Day 08 : Chandertaal Lake To Tandi
The initial section of the ride is quite rough and has many water crossings that will test your riding skills to the max. After crossing Batal, we behold the amazing sight of Bara-Sigri glacier, the second longest glacier in the Himalayas after Gangotri. Once on the Manali-Leh Highway, we have a comparatively smooth ride till Tandi. The landscape changes again from barren to lush green. Your stay will be in bamboo cottages with incredible view of confluence of Chandra and Bhaga rivers.
Day 09 : Tandi To Manali
Nature is at its best on the last day of the ride. We cross the scenic Rohtang pass down to the sight of lush green Himalayan mountains and waterfalls that appear out of nowhere. After the descent from the pass, you ride into Manali, a popular hill station in the Himalayas. We will have a few rooms for you to freshen up before you take the evening bus out of Manali. enquiry
