Malana Village: is a small tribal community of tribal people, who has a unique culture and their own democratic government. Malana village government is considered the oldest democracy in the world. It is believed that the Greeks under the leadership of Alexendera the great came all the way to Malana village, where few soldiers who were left behind from his army, intermarried here and develoved a society that came to be known as Manala village Society , which is known to be the oldest democracy of the world. The village has its own law. In recent times no police ever entered the village and they do not have any respect for the outside authority. Most of the villagers want to stay detached from rest of the world but slowly it is changing and people have started getting mixed up with the outside world.
To reach Manali village we have to cross over Chanderkhani Pass. The trek passes through beautiful alpine pasture and we have beautiful view of some of the high mountain peaks.
Leave after breakfast and drive to towards the mountain area of Kullu valley. After few hours drive you enter into Kullu valley. Check in Naggar Castle Hotel in Naggar village in Kullu valley.
After breakfast drive to Solang valley(2hours drive) from where you start an acclimatization walk down to Manali passing through the traditional villages of Manali. In Manali visit Hadimba Devi temple. Spend time walking on the Mall in Manali. Later driver back to Naggar for overnight stay in Naggar Castle Hotel.
After breakfast we start walking from Naggar. After an hour of steep ascent we reach Rumshu village, an excellent example of traditional pahari (mountain) village with its wooden houses and traditional architectural style. Spend sometime visiting the village and then trek further upto Rumshu Thach and camp in the middle of the alpine meadow. Beautiful views of Dhauladhar mt range to the west, Pir Panjal range to the North-West and Lahul range to the north.
We walk through coniferous forest and meadows carpeted with variety of alpine flowers. Superb views of the valley and mountain ranges all around. Camp at the base of Chanderkhani Pass.
It takes around two hours to get to the top of the pass. The climb is harder at the margins of the season, in mid may and early june when the pass and upper meadows are under snow cover. The pass is marked by prayer flags and cairns. From the pass it is leveled walk for another 2-3 hours to Nagruni Thach, a beautiful alpine meadow where we camp for night stay.
Down hill walk for few hours takes us donw to Malana village where we camp for overnight stay. Visit the traditional village of Manala. The people of village are very conservation. They claim to be the descendants of Alexender The great and consider themselves to be of the highest cast and the outsiders for them are untouchable. You can not enter the boundery of the village temple and if you do so you are fined by the village government and the fine is collected at the spot. Few years back some the village houses were on fire and there was a huge lose of property and many traditional house were burnt down.
After a short downhill walk we reach the nearest road-head near Jari village from where we drive to Rewalsar. Check in Hotel. Rewalsar is very colorful village inhabited by a mixed community of Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists. There are holy shrines of all three religions. The lake next to village is considered holy by the Buddhists and they do a circular walk around the lake every morning and every afternoon. Overnight stay in Hotel in Rewalsar.
